Stanley Cup Playoffs: Hurricanes beat Rangers in Game 5, Stars defeat Avalanche in Game 4

The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the NY Rangers in Game 5 with a 4-1 win on Monday night at Madison Square Garden in NY.

The Hurricanes rallied in the third period to score four, led by Jordan Staal and Yevgeny Kuznetsov’s goals 3:06 apart in addition to goals by Jordan Martinook and Martin Necas, to help the Canes stave off elimination for the second straight game. Frederik Andersen also had 20 saves.

Game 6 is set to take place on Thursday night in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Dallas Stars won Game 4 of the Western Conference Second Round with a 5-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night at Ball Arena.  The win marked the Stars’ third-straight of the series, who also now hold a 3-1 series lead.

Wyatt Johnston scored twice, with Miro Heiskanen and Evgenii Dadonov also scoring and Sam Steel adding a late empty-net goal. Goalie Jake Oettinger made 24 saves.

Dallas will try to close out the series with a win when they face the Avalanche at home in Game 5 on Wednesday.
